A rust free 29,000 mile Civic with 200,000 mile capable drivetrain? Considering that my niece has a ‘06 Civic EX that has been trouble free in Chicago with 160,000 miles, I would say it is the nice price deal of all time.
My mother in law lives in Vence FL and I read the for sale ads down there. I swear used car prices in Western FL are the cheapest in the world. Old people tend to drive few miles, maintain them well and sell/trade them long before worn. That Civic is a very comfortable car, not a sports car. But if cheap miles are your priority, this droid is for you.....

I thought you wanted a fun car with a manual

I mean it’s probably nice but almost 10k and it’s 12 years old. Unless the maintenance was kept up religiously for its age, not mileage, you may be looking at 500 in fluid flushes/changes. By that time you could look at a new Spark/Mirage/Yaris and get financed, because some banks have a pretty strict 10 year cut off for financing an auto loan.

Not that colour.

The miles are low but it's still a 12 year old car. That's a little more than I'd want to pay. But not terrible.

Heck, other than oil, I am pretty sure that my niece’s EX has the original fluids that came from the factory. In fact other than oil, I have never cha nged the fluid on any Honda we have owned in the 500,000 miles we have driven them.
I t’s an appliance, drive it.

It’s a NP but you wouldn’t enjoy it.
PS, I’ll probably be buying my TSX back, paying the $250 for licensing, and selling it

Why is this so cool to me?

If an automatic Civic sedan is what you want, this could be a nice price.
But are you looking for an automatic Civic sedan?

Just saying what you could have new vs a 12 year old Honda Civic. I mean there are probably plenty of newer compacts with average miles sitting around that price.

Agreed just more pointing out that if due diligence is needed there may be a bit more to think about than just the price.

My question is always the safety equipment - this has overheard and side-impact bags. 9 grand it probably a bit steep, but you’d spend nothing more on it. I’d want to see if the timing belt has been changed - I’d change based on time, not miles.

Hard pass
Clear coats probably shot, the ac compressor prolly sucks and it’s a gutless drive train

Crack pipe, Civics aren’t as made for abuse as they used to be if my wife’s old car was any indication. She wasn't too brutal on it and the suspension started to shake itself apart after 110k miles. We also paid about the same for hers with lower miles 5 years ago. Also, you could probably snag a new (discontinued) Focus for 1 or 2k more.

Not really but I almost got one in worse condition than this, same color/trim with 135k miles for $2k but then the Odyssey died so we had to reserve money for that

If you can have $2750 or so ready by the end of June, you’re welcome to buy it, although I play by CL rules, first person with cash in hand gets it, no holds. I’ve had a LOT of interest from people to buy the car, in person and online, so you’ll have to be ready to purchase. You will have some warning about it, don’t worry. Just don’t want you to be disappointed if I can’t hold it until august. I know you’ve said you have an uncle in Chicago, which isn’t too far away if he’d be willing to meet in the middle so we can exchange money and the car.

Oh shit this is actually going down. Alright, so how many miles? Any other accidents than the ones posted about here? Do you know if it’s stock trans or anything like that? Basically like all the details and whatnot about it’s condition and reliability and any problems you have experienced.

Also, I need pictures man, PICTURES!! Lol but for real, like interior shots and stuff and engine bay and trunk and all that. This could actually happen.

the focus is a shit ton worse if my memory serves me right, but my parents want me to get a Honda/Acura because literally our entire family within a 50 mile radius owns Hondas

It has 221,7xx miles. By the end of June, it’ll probably be at 222k, but barely. I’ve owned it since 187,500 and I bought it 2 years ago. Other than oil changes every 5k, I’ve only had to replace the tires about 34k miles ago and the alternator about 8 months ago. All accidents have been posted here, all have happened in the past 6 months or so. Engine and trans are original, although I changed the fluid about 25k miles ago, it’s still reddish, not brown or burnt. It’s been incredibly reliable. It has a little rust on the door seams, only visible on the inside when the doors are open, as well as a patch above the passenger side rear wheel. Other small quibble is that I had to glue the cruise button down, as the part that holds it had worn out. Because of that the cruise is now on permanently. The interior is fairly clean, no tears or rips in the seats. The stitching on the steering wheel is slightly torn, but the leather is still fine and it’s not that bad. Car drives straight, and the suspension is all good, no clunks bangs or rattles. Everything works just as it should.

I’ll try to get newer ones to you soon, but for now just go through my older posts about my car and you’ll get a good idea of what it’s like.

Sounds good, thanks for the info. I’ll text my uncle to see if he can meet up with you sometime and check it out and I’ll let you know if he can and then I could give you his number or something. Keep me posted.

Focuses are known to be pretty bulletproof as long as you don’t get the DCT. The 2.0L NA motor puts out a healthy 160HP and is utilized in the Transit Connect as well, so it’s plenty of motor to lug the lighter Focus around. 10K miles recommended between oil changes, so it’s pretty easy to keep up on the maintenance.
The handling is also better than that generation’s Civic, IMO. I would stay away from the 3 cyl turbo and DCT but otherwise they’ve got a pretty good reliability reputation, and are sportier than that Civic would be, at the least. Factor in that a new car starts with basically zero miles on the odometer, no abuse from previous owners, easier financing
and an active warranty and the Focus isn’t a bad way to go. We traded in my wife’s old Civic after it failed the safety inspection (with the shop recommending a full suspension rebuilt; I didn’t want to troubleshoot and throw more money at the car) and she seems to consider it a huge upgrade in terms of performance, comfort, technology and space.
We never had any issues with the engine or transmission with her Civic EX, but it was pretty gutless for modern roads with less than 140HP and as I mentioned the rest of the car didn’t feel up to Honda standards... AC went out in the time we owned it, body panel rivets started to break free, steering rack started leaking; quite a few minor issues over ~4 years.
I daily drive an S2000, so I’m all about keeping it in the Honda family, but there are far better options out there as far as Hondas go. An RSX could be a nice way to go instead, even in base trim that gets you 160HP at least
. Integra GSR, older Civic hatch, Prelude, etc are all pretty good reliable
FWD platforms that have felt more durable in my experience. You could probably get a Civic SI from that generation
at that price point through private sale, which may still have the nagging reliability concerns of that generation but at least you’d get the 200HP engine.

Wait - didn’t only the Fiesta come with a 3 cylinder not the focus? Otherwise good advice.

Wiki lists the 1.0T as an extra-cost option starting in 2015 in the North American marketplace for the SE model line. I think that option may only be available on the sedan models here though. Looks like from Ford’s configuration/pricing tool that it’s about a $1500 option that gives you an extra 1MPG in the city and 4 on the highway. Seems like a counter intuitive option; I’d rather have the 2.0L NA motor with an extra 40HP personally, even with the mileage penalty :
